Randomized trial evaluates seismic performance of hybrid steel plate shear walls, highlighting enhanced strength and stability.
This study evaluates the seismic performance of a three-layer hybrid steel plate shear wall consisting of a trapezoidal corrugated steel core confined between two flat plates. ABAQUS finite element models were validated using experimental data and applied to assess aspect ratio, corrugation angle, orientation, thickness ratio, and steel consumption. Compared with conventional single-corrugated walls, the proposed Flat-CSPSW system achieved up to 39.1% higher peak strength, 3.23 times greater energy dissipation, and 2.4–13.9% higher initial stiffness. The flat plates reduced out-of-plane deformation by 9.4–97.3%. Overall, the system provides stable post-buckling behavior and strong potential for seismic-resistant high-rise structures.
