This article analyzes the theory and methods of biomimetic restorative dentistry, revealing important clinical insights.
This article analyses the theoretical foundations, clinical workflow, materials, and evidence-based limitations of biomimetic restorative dentistry. Biomimetic care aims to reproduce not only tooth morphology but also the biomechanical behaviour of the enamel–dentin complex, stress distribution, pulpal vitality, and long-term function. Selective caries removal, adhesive bonding, immediate dentin sealing, partial-coverage restorations, layered composite placement, and bioactive materials are reviewed. Tissue preservation is biologically and mechanically sound; however, the claimed superiority of every branded or bundled biomimetic protocol is not consistently supported by high-quality clinical evidence.
