Shows effective conversion of aryl triflates to chlorides, highlighting a green approach.
Phenols are cheap, abundant bulk chemicals that serve as versatile starting materials for diverse organic transformations. Herein, we report a mild, visible-light-induced FeCl 3 -catalyzed protocol for converting aryl triflates to aryl chlorides using MgCl 2 as an inexpensive and green chlorine source. The reaction proceeds without noble metals or additional photoredox catalysts, shows broad functional group tolerance, and delivers products in good to excellent yields. Notably, the method is air- and moisture-tolerant and readily scalable.
