Experimental study demonstrates room-temperature desulfurative chlorination of aromatic thiols, suggesting an accessible catalytic route to aryl chlorides.
We report herein an FeCl 3 -catalyzed desulfurative chlorination of thiol-containing aromatics at room temperature with irradiation at 395–400 nm, resulting in the corresponding aryl chlorides in moderate to good yields.
