Purpose In the era of the digital economy, the way enterprise value creation is changing. More enterprises realize value co-creation by participating in the innovation ecosystem. Thus, the study aims to explore the path to high-level value co-creation in the innovation ecosystem. Design/methodology/approach This study explored the multiple combinatorial paths of value co-creation in the innovation ecosystem affected by coupled knowledge flows, institutional support, knowledge reconstruction ability, knowledge stocks and innovation ecosystem normativity. The research adopted the method of fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis and took 332 high-tech enterprises participating in the innovation ecosystem as the research objects. Findings The results show that five paths drive high-level value co-creation, which are categorized into three models based on the core conditions: expanding knowledge stocks for active collaboration, synergizing internal capability with external support, and multi-domain interactive in a normative environment. Originality/value The research further extended the research on the antecedent conditions of value co-creation in the innovation ecosystem and provided useful references for the sustainable development of the innovation ecosystem.
