Evaluates biocompatibility of magnesium hydroxyapatite in osteoblast-like cells, suggesting its potential for bone regeneration.
In this study, 15MgHAp (x Mg = 0.15) was synthesized by an adapted method, lyophilized, and characterized to evaluate its physicochemical and biological properties. The ultrasound measurements (US) evaluated the stability of the resulting MgHAp gel. Complementary surface information was obtained using a scanning ultrasonic microscope (SUM). The biological performance of 15MgHAp pellets was assessed using MG63 osteoblast‐like cells. The cytotoxicity of the 15MgHAp pellets was evaluated by measuring the cell viability with the aid of (3‐(4,5‐dimethylthiazol‐2‐yl)‐2,5‐diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay after 24, 48, and 72 h of incubation. The results of the cell viability assay indicated that 15MgHAp pellets exhibited good biocompatible properties. Overall, this study provides a comprehensive analysis of MgHAp samples with potential clinical applications in bone regeneration and tissue engineering, revealing the advantages of ultrasonic characterization methods.
