Demonstrates improved oxidation of carboxylic acids with titanium catalyst, suggesting efficient applications in drug synthesis.
Here, we present a titanium‐catalyzed decarboxylative oxidation reaction under mild conditions with visible blue LED irradiation. The transformation uses readily available and structurally diverse carboxylic acids, amino acids, titanium photocatalyst, and O 2 or air as oxygenation reagents. This method demonstrates a broad substrate scope for carboxylic acid derivatives, encompassing a broad range of functional groups and stereoelectronic properties. The synthetic applications demonstrate that this method could enable the late‐stage oxygenation of marketed drug molecules and gram‐scale synthesis. Mechanistic studies confirm that the photo‐induced LMCT process generates the carboxyl radical originating from in situ formed carboxylate‐Ti(IV) complexes.
