Investigates ion exchange effects of nickel and cobalt on detonation nanodiamonds, indicating potential applications in materials science.
The possibility of modifying the surface of disaggregated carboxylated detonation nanodiamonds (DNDs) with a particle size of 4–5 nm by d-metal ions has been investigated. Interaction of DND hydrosol with aqueous solutions of M(NO3)2·6H2O and М(OAc)2·4H2O (M = Ni2+, Co2+) results in the ion exchange reaction between protons of DND surface carboxylate groups and Ni2+ and Co2+ ions of the salts as investigated using conductometric and potentiometric titration and electrophoretic light scattering. The maximum number of Ni2+ or Co2+ ions per DND particle is 21 when an aqueous solution of М(OAc)2·4H2O is added to the DND hydrosol.
