Study developed an art program promoting cognitive engagement in older adults, suggesting effective community resources.
Population aging has increased the need for community-based programs that support healthy aging. This study used a CBPR-informed action research design with a qualitatively driven multi-method structure to develop and refine a community-based art program for older adults in northern Taiwan. In partnership with a community advisory group, the program was iteratively revised through inquiry, piloting, implementation, feedback, and re-implementation across two 8-week cycles in two community centers. Forty-nine of 60 participants completed the program. Findings supported feasibility, acceptability, contextual fit, and age appropriateness, while qualitative follow-up data suggested perceived cognitive engagement and psychosocial support.
