Experimental demonstration reveals the use of composite helico-conical beams for optical manipulation and communications, suggesting practical applications.
The helico-conical beam is a type of beam with the phase implemented with nonseparable dependence on r and θ. A spiral intensity distribution will be formed at the focal plane of the lens by focusing the beam. In this paper, we present a method for generating an composite helico-conical beam. By adjusting the parameters l and m, we can easily control the intensity patterns of the beam. We also experimentally demonstrate the application of the composite helico-conical beam for optical manipulation. The beams are also promising for optical tweezers and optical communications.
