Survey and focus group study explores dance students’ use of GenAI tools, suggesting effective integration strategies for educators.
This study investigates the perspectives of dance students on the use of Generative Pre-trained Transformer (GPT) and Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) tools. The article looks at how dance students view GenAI tools and, more importantly, how they utilize these tools in learning. The research included a survey as well as a focus group study that incorporated interviews. To capture a broad spectrum of pedagogical contexts, a total of 109 dance students, comprising 104 females and 15 males, aged 18–40 years from two distinct undergraduate cohorts from a research-based university and a conservatory, participated. Findings indicate that students utilized GenAI tools for language enhancement and reported significant improvements in the quality of their written assignments. This study provides applicable and practical strategies for educators to integrate GenAI tools in dance courses.
