Investigates antibody prevalence in sheep, indicating important infection rates in livestock.
Aim to study:This study aimed to investigate the antibodies ofNeospora caninum (N. Caninum)andAnaplasmaovis(A. ovis)species in sheep in the Niğde province by Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA).Materials and methods:Blood samples were collected from 175 sheep aged one year and older slaughtered at theNiğde abattoir and were analyzed by ELISA to detect antibodies againstN. caninumand the competitive ELISA(cELISA) for the detection ofA. ovisantibodies. Results:Out of the 175 sheep, 20 (11.4%) were positive for N. caninum and 25 (14.2%) for A. ovis by ELISA. Thedifference in seropositivity toN. caninumbetween months was statistically significant (p<0.05), while the differencein seropositivity toA. ovisamong months was not statistically significant (p>0.05).Conclusion:The prevalence of these infections in sheep from Niğde province was determined, and theseroprevalence ofN. caninumandA. oviswas detected at 11.4% and 14.2%, respectively.
