Preprint introduces a foundational definition of the mind, addressing cognitive circularity, and implications for AI.
This preprint introduces a foundational O₀ definition of the Mind within the RA/PMT architecture. It addresses the long‑standing circularity problem in scientific and philosophical attempts to define the Mind, where cognition is used to explain cognition. The manuscript establishes the Mind as a pre‑operational, non‑cognitive essence located in RA4 whose fundamental property is the origination of Intent. It distinguishes Intent (RA4) from intention (RA1.5) and describes the full chain through which Intent becomes explicit cognition in RA1. The work formalizes how the Mind thinks pre‑semantically, remembers atemporally, and decides non‑coercively, preserving human free will while providing a non‑circular conceptual foundation for consciousness studies. It also clarifies the scientific and linguistic meaning of O₀ as a zero‑order origin point independent of neural substrates, cognitive functions, and representational systems. The preprint further outlines implications for artificial intelligence, emphasizing that AI systems operate in RA1‑like layers and cannot originate Intent. This distinction provides a boundary condition for the design of cognitive architectures such as Socrates AI and Salomon AI.
