ABSTRACT Mosquitoes (Diptera: Culicidae) are of major public health importance due to their role as vectors of mosquito‐borne pathogens and the impact of nuisance biting. Accurate geographical knowledge of mosquito fauna is the foundation of effective arbovirus surveillance and biosecurity. Tasmania has historically been considered low risk for mosquito‐borne disease transmission. However, climate‐driven range shifts and the 2022 emergence of Japanese encephalitis virus across southeastern Australia underscore the need for a mosquito species inventory. This study provides a baseline checklist of mosquito species reported from Tasmania to act as a reference for future programmes and research. The list compiles occurrence records from peer‐reviewed literature, previously unpublished Tasmanian government surveillance, and publicly available data. We identified 51 species from seven genera in Tasmania and present them in a baseline checklist. This compilation and review of mosquito fauna from Tasmania improve public health preparedness for emerging mosquito‐borne diseases and potential changes in mosquito distributions under human‐induced climate change. This list will support public health and biosecurity decisions and actions, arbovirus surveillance, future metagenomic research and integrated pest management.
