This article models creep deformation in engineering steels, highlighting the effects of prior plastic deformation on material resistance.
This article models the creep deformation of engineering steels as a function of prior plastic deformation. Both pretension and precompression cases are considered, assuming that both the plastic deformation and subsequent creep occur at the same elevated temperature. As a specific example, the loading path-dependent creep properties of 10%Cr steel were examined and analytically described. The model results showed good agreement with the experimental data: prior plastic deformation in tension increases the material’s resistance to creep, whereas prior plastic deformation in compression decreases it.
