This article analyzes how institutional meta-research creates an illusion of scientific advancement, suggesting a need for structural change.
This article is the sixth in a 30-part Structural Diagnostic Lattice series, published between June and July 2026. The series provides a mechanistic, first-principles map of modern institutional, technological, financial, and cognitive systems. "The Metascience Illusion" exposes the fundamental category error of institutional "meta-research," revealing it as a horizontal administrative layer rather than a true vertical scientific leap. The analysis establishes that real metascience requires bypassing external artifacts to map the invariant physics of the internal observer—emotional, cognitive, and somatic fields—and engineering a coherent substrate. The article provides a structural lens for understanding how institutions use "meta" labels as PR to defend against crises without changing their architecture, linking directly to subsequent analyses on frame control, the academic death spiral, and the enclosure of free thought.
