In recent years, artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as a driving force in different realms of social, economic, and political activity worldwide. This article takes interest in how AI is likely to affect dynamics of on and off-line political communication over the next decade. Specifically, it takes a deep dive into AI’s influence on the structure of the on and off-line political media environment, its effects on strategic uses of elements of identity in political messaging, as well as how it can help formal and informal political players amplify and scale their communication across media platforms. This article adds to a growing body of academic scholarship taking interest in AI’s rapidly expanding and deepening role and influence in different facets of the political process.
