Nomenclatural analysis identifies gaps and designates lectotypes for Cardionema, highlighting taxonomic stability in the genus.
As part of a revision of the genus Cardionema for the series Flora of Ecuador, a significant gap in knowledge regarding the nomenclature of the genus across the whole continent was identified and is addressed here with the aim of maintaining nomenclatural stability. Five lectotypes are designated for names related to the taxon. The synonyms of Cardionema ramosissimum are clarified representing the first comprehensive nomenclatural study carried out for the genus. These actions contribute to the taxonomic stability of Cardionema throughout the continent, and provide a solid basis for future research. Images of the designated lectotypes are included.
