Preregistered hypothesis proposes a general family of latent control representations in language models, suggesting implications for response strategy.
A preregistered hypothesis and experimental-design note proposing that several known single-behavior latent directions in language models (refusal, abstention, uncertainty reporting, evaluation awareness) may be special cases of a more general family of task-induced, appraisal-structured latent control representations that partially govern response-strategy selection across semantic domains. Version 0.1.1 is a transparent pre-data amendment of the archived v0.1.0 preregistration: it tightens the design before any data collection by adding an explicit family-structure test, a fixed direction-derivation rule, a concept-mention stimulus-QA protocol, two-tier response-strategy superclasses, a modular mini-shard protocol, a distinct-replication-model constraint, and expanded verified prior art. No data have been collected; this version reports no experimental results.
