This chapter explores syngas production pathways for sustainable aviation fuel using Fischer-Tropsch synthesis, suggesting innovative approaches.
“Syngas-based Pathways for SAF: Fischer-Tropsch Synthesis – The production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) using syngas and Fischer-Tropsch synthesis (FTS) is explored in this chapter, with a particular emphasis on sustainable syngas production pathways. Using gasification of biomass and the FischerTropsch process for the generation of SAF provides a biomass to-liquid (BTL) route, while power-based approaches for the generation of syngas together with FTS represent the power-to-liquid (PTL) route. A thorough grasp of the historical evolutions, technical issues, recent milestones and long-term prospects is provided for the FTS.”
