Study re-evaluates taxonomy and proposes changes in species classifications within two bacterial families.
Acidaminococcaceae and Sporomusaceae are both families within the class Negativicutes . At present, Acidaminococcaceae comprises 5 genera and 17 species, whereas Sporomusaceae includes 16 genera and 32 species. In this study, the taxonomy of both families was re-evaluated using a combination of comparative relatedness metrics and phylogenetic analyses based on 16S rRNA gene and genome sequence data. These analyses resolved four heterotypic synonym pairs, resulting in two new combinations and the proposal of one novel Candidatus species. Consequently, the family Acidaminococcaceae is revised to comprise 5 genera and 15 species, while Sporomusaceae is reduced to 14 genera and 30 species.
