Synthesis and properties of L-methioninium nitrate demonstrate potential for photonic applications, indicating suitable materials for optoelectronic devices.
Single crystals of L-methioninium nitrate (LMN) were grown by slow evaporation using a 1:1 ratio of L-methionine and nitric acid. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction (XRD) was used to analyze the crystal structure and molecular geometry of LMN. Powder XRD and Williamson–Hall analysis confirmed a monoclinic structure with low lattice strain, indicating good crystalline quality. FTIR study revealed molecular structure, while photoluminescence showed a broad emission 330–550 nm, suggesting suitability for photonic detectors. Impedance studies indicated bulk-dominated conduction and non-Debye relaxation with stable electrical performance and low dielectric loss at high frequencies. Second harmonic generation efficiency was measured using Kurtz and Perry powder technique.
