Case report reveals incidental 18F-FDG uptake in a lumbosacral transitional vertebra, indicating potential interpretation challenges in oncologic imaging.
Although commonly identified on anatomic imaging, metabolic activity associated with the lumbosacral transitional vertebra is rarely reported on positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) and may represent a potential interpretative pitfall during oncologic response assessment. We present a case of a 24-year-old male with known classical Hodgkin's lymphoma who underwent 18F fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) PET/ CT for post-treatment assessment, which showed incidental 18 F-FDG uptake at the left lumbosacral junction. Subsequent CT correlation demonstrated a lumbosacral transitional vertebra with pseudoarticulation.
