Demonstrates effective carboxylation in organic halides, indicating improved flow technology efficiency.
High Resolution Image Download MS PowerPoint Slide The direct electrochemical carboxylation of aryl chlorides and bromides by CO 2 using a recirculation flow cell is described. The process employs a Mg sacrificial rod anode surrounded by a cylindrical shaped nickel foam cathode. The reactions are simply carried out with common and affordable equipment under galvanostatic mode at –10 °C, using DMF as the solvent and carbon dioxide at atmospheric pressure. Under these smooth conditions, an important range of carboxylic acids is accessible at a 100 mmol scale. The global superiority of the flow technology over the batch process is underlined by the statistical comparison of the results obtained in both conditions and the calculation of the molar electric consumption for conversion.
