This paper reviews existing literature and develops a conceptual framework for currency internationalisation, using a bibliometric analysis and systematic literature review. The bibliometric analysis reveals recent publication trends in the field of currency internationalisation across journals, authors, affiliated institutions, and country- or region-specific contributions, and identifies data clusters using abstracts, titles, and keywords drawn from the Web of Science and Scopus. The systematic literature review identifies the key concepts for building a holistic conceptual framework for currency internationalisation. This conceptual framework holds practical value for practitioners and policymakers in emerging economies seeking to navigate the process of currency internationalisation, while its theoretical insights further solidify the intellectual foundations of the field. Finally, this study identifies potential areas for future research.
