Quadrant analysis examines ESG performance trends in 22 Indian FMCG firms, highlighting sustainability challenges and opportunities.
This study examines ESG performance trends of 22 Indian FMCG firms from 2021–2023 using a trajectory-based ESG Quadrant Analysis. Unlike conventional static approaches, the study integrates performance levels with temporal trends to classify firms into Leaders, Decliners, Improvers, and Laggards. The key scientific contribution lies in introducing a dynamic framework that captures both current sustainability performance and its evolution over time. The findings reveal that high ESG scores do not guarantee sustained leadership, emphasizing the importance of trajectory-based evaluation. The study provides actionable insights for investors, policymakers, and managers by enabling more nuanced assessment of sustainability risks and opportunities.
