Quantifies brake pad wear in passenger cars, indicating critical insights for traffic safety.
The braking is very important from the aspect of traffic safety. During the braking process, due to the pressure action between the brake disc and brake pads, it comes an increment in the friction force, which as the consequence, results in heat generation and the wear of the friction couple. In this research, the results obtained experimentally (braking time, decrement of the speed of the simulated vehicle, the braking pressure, and the friction coefficient) were used, as the input for the numerical analysis, with the aim of determining the wear of brake pads. The obtained results show that the greatest wear intensity is in the case of the greatest braking pressure (5 MPa). However, the greatest wear amount was obtained for the case when the braking pressure was 4 MPa.
