Explores the various neurological causes of ideomotor apraxia, revealing implications for diagnosis and treatment.
Ideomotor apraxia (IMA) is a neurological disorder characterized by the inability to perform free learned, skilled movements or on verbal command or through visual imitation, despite retaining the ability to conceptualize the action and having intact sensory and motor functions. We have four etiologies of ideational apraxia : 1- Left posterior precuneus cortex damage, 2- Left anterior cingulate cortex damage (Right Homonymous partial agnosia, Bilateral ideomotor apraxia, Ideomotor Lingual Apraxia and visuospatial deficit) , 3- Left premotor cortex damage (Right Homonymous partial agnosia, Akinetic mutism, Right-Sided Apraxia, Right hand Agraphia) , 4- Lesions in the left supramarginal gyrus (SMG) (Virtual sensory 3D body position deficit)
