The image of librarians has been well-documented in the literature. However, little is known about how they view themselves as they moderate book clubs, and it remains a research blank spot. This phenomenological inquiry seeks to understand what typifies the self-image of a select group of Filipino school librarians as they assume the role of a moderator of book clubs through the lived experiences of nine (9) purposively-recruited librarian-club moderators from private schools in Metro Manila, Philippines. Semi-structured, in-depth interviews were conducted through online channels to collect data. Based on the thorough subjecting of the verbalisations of the selections’ collective and individual narratives to cool and warm analyses, the Dualistic Self-Image of School Librarian Club Moderators emerged two interesting themes: altruistic self-image and professional self-image as they assume roles in how they act (function), what they provide (offering) to their members, and towards what end (purpose). This study provides deeper cognisance of the phenomenon and guides librarian-club moderators and other stakeholders for the improved conduct of club and extra-curricular library-related activities.
