Reshaping job crafting in hospitality: A systematic integrative review

This paper presents a systematic integrative literature review of job crafting (JC) in the hospitality industry, addressing the growing scholarly interest in JC as a proactive strategy for managing complex work demands. While hospitality research on JC has expanded, it remains conceptually fragmented, methodologically narrow, and contextually underdeveloped. Drawing on 49 peer-reviewed articles, this review identifies key trends in JC publications in hospitality, theoretical inconsistencies, and underexplored dimensions. A new integrated framework is proposed that reshapes JC to account for the unique features of hospitality work, and incorporates the nuanced interplay of personal, social, and organisational resources and demands, situating JC within the specific context of hospitality work. The review highlights the hospitality industry as a valuable context for advancing JC theory, particularly in relation to emotional labour, collaborative environments, and complex work demands. A research agenda is offered to guide future inquiry and support building environments that sustain JC behaviours.
