Review discusses Colletotrichum taxonomy and its impact on breeding for chili resistance.

This review aims to analyze the taxonomy and pathogenicity of Colletotrichum species affecting chili plants.
Reviewed multigene phylogenetic studies conducted since 2009 that revise Colletotrichum taxonomy.
Identified and discussed 24 Colletotrichum species associated with chili anthracnose, focusing on the main pathogens.
Explored pathotypes within major Colletotrichum species and their implications for breeding resistant chili genotypes.
Identified three main pathogenic species: C. scovillei, C. truncatum, and C. siamense.
Noted pathotypes that can overcome resistance in chili relatives, such as Capsicum chinense and C. baccatum.
Stressed the importance of accurate Colletotrichum identification for effective integrated disease management.

Mongkolporn et al. (2018) studied this question.
