Characterizes nanoparticle morphology in citrate-gold synthesis, suggesting applications in sensing.
The aim of this study was to characterize the microstructural and spectral features of citrate- gold nanoparticles synthesized by a two-phase photochemical protocol were studied. UV exposure induced a 32 nm blue shift of the characteristic band while UV exposure and controlled ageing resulted in a12 nm consistent with TEM results, showing a shrinkage of the nanoparticles from 17 nm to 8 nm, and the formation of short chains. FTIR and Raman analyses revealed changings in the citrate-gold coordination and citrate rearrangement after UV irradiation. The fine size of the nanoparticles and the stability for about two months seem to justify potential uses in optical and sensing applications.
