Abstract A polyphenol, now named theogallin, detected by paper chromatography in tea‐leaf, has been shown not to be identical with m ‐digallic acid as originally thought. A method of preparation is described but the final product still contains appreciable impurities. Its reactions suggest it to be a depside of gallic acid with some highly hydroxylated organic acid.
