In recent years the black family has been seen in a different perspective. Its strengths are now emphasized instead of its pathology. This paper builds upon this new perspective, and suggests possible directions for the future for the black family. These future directions include (a) the utilization of new theories, (b) further relevant research, and (c) implementation of action approaches. The role of the black family as a model or agent of change is recognized.
