Enrichment is seen as a rapidly developing new approach to serving marriages and families. As such, it is defined and described. It is then compared to existing serviceseducation and counseling-which, along with research, represent the three already recognized fields. Because enrichment appears to represent an approach significantly different from the others. it is suggested that the time may have come to identify it as a separate field in its own right. An attempt to relate the three service fields, thus identified, produces evidence that progressive improvement in the quality of both education and counseling for marriage and the family may ultimately unite them both as they become merged into enrichment.
