Globally, video games are the most widely used form of entertainment. Video gameplay may reflect distinct social needs, especially for culturally diverse groups. Scholarship focusing on video gameplay and wellness within the counseling field is nascent. This study explored Black affectional minority men’s (BAMM) experience of connection and disconnection while gaming using Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) and Relational Cultural Theory (RCT). Participant experiences produced three core themes: Forces of Disconnection, Connection Seeking, and Gaming Journey. Additionally, six subthemes were developed to further capture the intrapersonal and interpersonal experiences of BAMM gamers. This article provides limitations and suggestions for counseling professionals supporting BAMM gamers through research and therapy.
