Case report reveals respiratory distress in a child with LCH presenting unique symptoms, highlighting evaluation importance.
Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) is a neoplastic process originating from immature myeloid precursor cells. In this report, we describe a case of a 17‐month‐old with scaling of the scalp and swelling of the bilateral parotid glands who developed acute respiratory distress. Evaluation revealed extensive pulmonary involvement, and a skin biopsy was found to be consistent with LCH. Pediatric LCH rarely presents with bilateral parotid gland involvement or cystic lung disease, emphasizing the importance of comprehensive evaluation of pediatric patients with LCH.
