This article explores interactive composing between a human pianist and plants, suggesting a symbiotic approach to music creation.
This article introduces Streams in the Veins, an interspecies music performance that engages interactive composing between a human pianist and plants. It elucidates the work by delineating two interrelated parts: the development of an interactive platform that facilitates cocreation across species and the resulting performance practices. Highlighting a symbiotic collaboration, this work explores the perceptual abilities of different life forms through biosignal-based musical translations, integrating deep learning–driven timbre transfer with MIDI conversion. It advances a performance methodology that promotes equitable interaction among human and nonhuman entities, proposing a more-than-human perspective on interspecies interactive composing.
