This article explores how augmented and virtual reality enhance biology education, suggesting a shift in teaching methods.
The article investigates the possibilities of applying Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) technologies in the teaching of biology. The integration of modern digital technologies into the educational system creates opportunities for more effective teaching of subjects such as biology, which require complex and visual understanding. The study analyzes the essence, main features, and distinctive characteristics of AR and VR technologies. The article provides information about various AR and VR applications used in teaching different fields of biology, including cell biology, genetics, human anatomy, ecology, and biodiversity. The role of programs such as Cell Explorer, InCell VR, Anatomy 4D, Visible Body, Nature Treks VR, EcoMUVE, and EcoVR in creating an interactive learning environment for pupils and students is highlighted. It is emphasized that virtual laboratories provide safe, practical, and accessible experimental opportunities in biology lessons. The results of the research indicate that AR and VR technologies have significant advantages in biology education in terms of increasing motivation, visualizing complex biological processes, developing practical skills, and ensuring longer-term retention of knowledge. At the same time, the study notes the importance of improving technical infrastructure and enhancing teachers’ digital competencies for the widespread implementation of these technologies.
