Synthesis of cationic palladium complexes demonstrates effective vinyl-addition polymerization in norbornene, highlighting catalytic potential.
A series of new cationic Pd‐allyl complexes were synthesized using bidentate phosphine‐thioether (P~S) ligands. The structures of the corresponding (P~S)Pd (allyl) complexes were thoroughly characterized by NMR spectroscopy, high‐resolution mass spectrometry, and X‐ray crystallography. These synthesized complexes were employed as single‐component catalysts for the vinyl‐addition polymerization of norbornene and its derivatives. The catalysts exhibited moderate activity (up to 4.48 g · mmol −1 · h −1 ) upon thermal activation. The effect of the phosphine‐thioether ligand structure on the catalytic activity of the palladium complexes in the vinyl‐addition polymerization of norbornene and its derivatives was evaluated.
