Demonstrates performance of thermal stability graded index optical fibers, indicating potential for high-speed communications.
This paper has simulated the high speed light sources based ultra high bandwidth and low loss thermal stability graded index plastic optical fibers for high speed optical communication systems. The two light sources are continous wave laser (CW) and vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL). The plastic optical fibers are used through this study that are namely graded index PMMA (Polymethyl Methacrylate), graded index CYTOP and the grded index perfluorinated plastic fibers. These plastic fibers are demonstrated for ultra low loss, thermal stability and high bandwidth capability through various operating wavelngths. The total graded index plastic fiber bandwidth is clarified against the plastic fiber index exponent for various plastic fiber types at various thermal effects from room temperature up to ambient temperature variations up to 400 K. The optical power through each proposed graded index plastic optical fiber is measured against both EDFA amplifier power and relative refractive index difference. The electrical receiver power is demonstrated at the receiver side versus proposed plastic optical fibers and relative refractive index differnce at various thermal effects.
