Case report demonstrates diagnosis of benign cylindroma in a 60-year-old male, suggesting notable recurrence risk.
Cylindroma is the rarest among rare adnexal skin tumors. The etiology of cylindroma is not known, but in the literature, both eccrine and apocrine origins are thoroughly discussed. Presentation of cylindroma in the external ear canal is very rare. In this article, we report the case of a 60-year-old male patient who presented with a soft-tissue sessile mass arising from the anterior wall of the cartilaginous external canal occluding the entire external ear canal lumen. It was associated with hearing loss. Cytology was suggestive of benign adnexal tumor. On histopathology, it was diagnosed as benign cylindroma of the external ear canal. Benign cylindroma of the external ear canal is highly uncommon. It shows a high rate of recurrence and high chances of malignant transformation. This is the tenth reported case worldwide.
