Narrative is a central way in which we as humans make meaning, but it can pose certain dangers, including the tyranny of the single story, the danger inherent in particular stories such as the apocalyptic, the storification of reality, and the demand that stories be coherent at the expense of complexity. A pragmatic perspective can counter these dangers without sacrificing meaning, providing an alternative to what has been called our post-truth world while at the same time allowing for the complexity of our time.
