Private school choice programs have expanded in the United States in recent years. Our survey of private school leaders indicates only 63% of private schools in states with programs accept students under these programs. We find that religious schools and schools serving special needs students are more likely to participate, while smaller schools and higher tuition schools are less likely. We estimate between 43% and 60% of participating private schools did not participate in the first year of each program. These findings suggest choice programs may increase access unevenly across the private sector, but that supply increases over time.
