Dynamic beam shaping enhances energy efficiency in manufacturing, indicating potential for sustainability improvements.
Dynamic beam shaping for enabling complex manufacturing tasks New manufacturing processes can be enabled by tailoring the energy input using dynamic laser beam shaping, writes Prof Dr- Ing Joerg Volpp, Dr- Ing Ole Hill and Hannes Büttner. The European manufacturing industry is at the forefront of innovation, enabling high-efficiency, high-productivity processes and component manufacturing. Those manufacturing methods are highly demanded to develop a net-zero industry, making energy production and also manufacturing itself more energy efficient and sustainable. The use of green energy to conduct those tasks helps achieve the European environmental goals. However, the manufacturing industry still consumes significant energy to produce metal products. Therefore, it is necessary to improve those processes to be energy-efficient and competitive with other countries.
