Pure-tone sensitivity, temporal integration, and difference limen for intensity and frequency were measured through appropriately modified procedures in normal-hearing subjects aged 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12 yrs. Results indicated a significant improvement in pure-tone sensitivity with increased age; a significant improvement in temporal integration thresholds, but no change in threshold-duration functions with increased age; and a significant decrease in the size of the difference limen for intensity and frequency with increased age. Results on both the sensitivity and discrimination tasks indicated that older subjects performed more like adult subjects than did the younger subjects.
