This study develops alkali-activated pervious concrete (AAPC) based on the content and chemical composition of the binders for pervious pavement applications. The design factors, namely, SiO2/Na2O, H2O/Na2O, and binder-to-aggregate (b/a) ratio, have been optimized to achieve ambient-cured ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS)-based AAPC with compressive strength, permeability, and porosity suitable for pavement applications. The b/a ratio was found to be the major design factor influencing the permeability and porosity. The SiO2/Na2O ratio significantly influenced the molecular structure, reaction products, and quality of the aluminosilicate gel formation, which in turn governed the compressive strength. The experimental results indicate that SiO2/Na2O, H2O/Na2O, and b/a of 7.0, 14.0, and 0.22, respectively, were the optimal values for achieving AAPC suitable for pavement applications. The compressive strength, permeability, and porosity of 19.2 MPa, 6.2 mm/s, and 22.9%, respectively, achieved by the optimum mixture satisfy the requirements for pavement application.
