The synthesis of ruthenium carbenes by the reaction of a Ru(0) compound or Ru(0) precursors with dihalo compounds is reported. A new procedure for the preparation of Ru(H) 2 (H 2 ) 2 (PCy 3 ) 2 and the use of this complex as a starting material for the synthesis of ruthenium carbenes are presented.
