The rapid rise of research on Industry 5.0 has garnered significant attention, but the literature remains fragmented across various fields. Our systematic review of 98 articles, published between 2014 and 2024, reveals key findings: a lack of a unified definition, prompting us to propose a more inclusive definition of Industry 5.0; gaps for rigorous quantitative, qualitative and simulation-based studies; a scarcity of theory-based research; and three core themes of the current research on Industry 5.0—human centricity, resilience and sustainability. We propose a conceptual framework for Industry 5.0 and offer future research directions with implications for the Asia Pacific countries.
