Sport team attachment development is described by the Psychological Continuum Model (PCM), but this model does not address the process of attachment weakening. Previous literature in this area is quite limited, and our research aims to fill this gap. Our analysis is based on a case study with a qualitative analysis of football fan interviews, when a large proportion of fans showed a significant level of dissatisfaction with the club’s activities. The four disattachment stages identified by the analysis are resentment, retreating, rage and releasing. These findings are partly similar to previous literature but also introduce new insights by extending the PCM.
